"Les Fleurs"

"For all of these simple things and much more, a flower was born

It blooms to spread love and joy, faith and hope to people forlorn

Inside every man lives the seed of a flower

If he looks within he finds beauty and power"

This ethereal course from Minnie Riperton's 1968 song, “Les Fleurs”, is what bloomed inspiration for my painting of the same name. Encountering an environmental mural where street art cleverly interacts with nature brings me immense joy. Visualizing a fresh perspective on our otherwise mundane neighborhoods and streets. I thought I might try my hand at it but on a smaller scale. By using materials such as artificial flowers, and different varieties of persevered moss, and giving the canvas a textured brick touch, along with the use of acrylics and spray paints, I crafted a portrait of a soulful Dryad. A tree nymph spirit meditating in the warmth of the sun with her lush afro filled with wildflowers. I wanted this piece to fill the room with a vision of inner peace and the knowledge that everyone has the potential to flourish but they must remember that it starts within.
